Youngest Man Executed in US

Posted on September 27, 2011

In the wake of the execution of Troy Davis, archives from the Blufton Daily show the youngest ever person to be executed in the States in the last century.

George Junius Stinney Jr of  South Carolina was convicted of murdering  two young white girls, 11 year old Betty June Binnicker and 8 year old Mary Emma Thames with a railroad spike and dumping their bodies in a ditch. Stinney was arrested the next day, and due to the high probability of a mob lynching, was kept in jail some 50 miles away in Columbia.

He died on the electric chair in 1944.
