Queenslander Miriam Shmierer sadly passed away at the grand old age of 112 today, the ABC reports. Incredibly, Mrs. Schmierer was born back in 1899 and spent the majority of her life in the Sunshine state on farms in Gayndah and Maleny.

She had a little way to go if she was to topple the world’s oldest person from the list, French woman Jean Calment of France allegedly lived for122 years and 164 days before her death in Paris in 1997 (via Wikipedia)

Wonder why there are so many more women on this list than men?
