Dalai Lama Refused Entry To South Africa

The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader was expected in South Africa this week for the 80th birthday of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, but has had to rearrange his travel plans after the South African government failed to issue him a visa.

Both Tutu and Lama (sounds like a buzz band) issued statements last week declaring the failure to issue the visa’s in a promptly manner as ‘profoundly disrespectful’ to the two Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

According to the New York Times, South Africa’s vice president Kgalema Motlanthe traveled to China  last week, to sign multiple trade and development agreements. According to the official news agency Xinhua, China’s vice president, Xi Jinping, thanked South Africa for its “valuable support” on Tibet.
