Possession of Shark Fins Now Illegal

Posted on October 8, 2011

Californian Governor Jerry Brown on Friday signed a bill that outlaws the sale and possession of shark fins in California, says the LA Times.

“The practice of cutting the fins off of living sharks and dumping them back in the ocean is not only cruel, but it harms the health of our oceans,” Brown said in a statement.

However, the local Chinese community is extremely pissed off, claiming the new law deprives them of a crucial ingredient in their popular shark fin soup, which does kind of make sense if you think about it.

One Chinese-American politician has called it “an unfair attack on Asian culture and cuisine”.

Anyone ever tried Shark Fin Soup? Now might be your last chance.
