Cyclops Shark Found in California

Posted on October 18, 2011

If sharks weren’t terrifying enough already, then take a look at this one eyed monster, discovered near Cerralvo Island in the Gulf of California.

Weekly World News reports that earlier this year fisher Enrique Lucero León legally caught a pregnant dusky shark, cut open his catch and found the odd-looking male embryo along with its nine normal siblings.

Cyclops sharks have been documented by scientists a few times before, also as embryos. The fact that none have been caught outside the womb suggests cyclops sharks don’t survive long in the wild.
